OREGON TEEN IN POSITION TO TAKE NATIONAL KART CHAMPIONSHIP

Victory at Final SKUSA Race Next Month Will Give High School Sophomore Tour Title

WEST LINN, Ore. -- Aug. 12, 2004 -- With a win last weekend at the CartBC Stars of Karting in Chillawack, British Columbia, Oregon teen Race Johnson has moved up to No. 2 on the Super Karts USA (SKUSA) tour leaderboard, only 17 points behind current No. 1, Cole Whitt. In his last three competitions, Race -- a 15-year-old sophomore at West Linn H.S. -- has two wins and a third-place finish.

Race will now travel to Orlando, Fla. next month for the final SKUSA race of the season, the Series Championship (Sept. 24-26). A victory will give Race the national KART title in only his second season on the tour.

Prior to his win in Canada, Race took the checkered flag at SKUSA Pro-Moto in Portland, Ore. (July 23-24) and a third place at Champ Car Stars of Tomorrow National Championship in Sonoma, Calif.(July 17-18).
